Where are you located?
I currently provide therapy services in-home or in the community to individuals located in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. Please contact me for more information on whether or not your area is within my service range.
Do you take insurance?
I only accept private pay at this time (out-of-pocket) via cash or check. I can provide you with a superbill at your request, for you to to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a form used by an individual to file for reimbursement from their health plan after paying for services out-of-pocket. It contains the necessary information to file a claim and can serve as an itemized record of services provided to an individual.
Why private pay?
Using a private pay model allows me to provide truly individualized treatment. Services don’t require a physician’s referral, there are no caps on how many sessions per year an individual can receive, you don’t have to meet a deductible, and we don’t have to navigate around other insurance restrictions. This way, I have more freedom and flexibility to personalize my services to each individuals’ needs.
What does a therapy session look like?
Honey Bee Therapy Services offers individualized treatment plans tailored to each Client’s specific needs. Sessions may be once or twice a week and may last from 30 to 60 minutes. Depending on the skills an individual is working on, schedules, location, level of generalization, and various other factors, sessions may take place in the home or in the community (library, park, coffee shop, etc). I love to incorporate a Client’s interests into my sessions, whether that’s favorite toys/games, preferred conversation topics, or motivating activities. I do my best to make sessions engaging while balancing fun and “work.” Please see this page for other services offered in addition to individual therapy sessions.
What is the difference between a screening and an evaluation?
In the simplest terms, a screening helps me answer the question: “Is there a problem?,” yes or no. Whereas an evaluation answers, “What is the problem?,” “What’s causing the problem?,” “What treatment approach might be effective?,” etc. A screening is much quicker (up to 30 minutes) compared to an evaluation (up to 2 hours), therefore it is also charged at a lower rate. A screening does not provide a diagnosis. An evaluation is required for a diagnosis.
Will speaking two languages in the home impact my child’s language development?
There are many myths surrounding bilingual language development. The bottom line is that “You will not confuse your child, cause or worsen speech or language problems, or slow down their learning by using your languages with your child” (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association). Remember, there are multilingual children learning 2+ languages all over the world (think of Europe!). If you want to learn more about some common myths surrounding the acquisition of two languages, check out this video interview with a speech-language pathologist who specializes in bilingualism.
